The Melbourne Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) through the Volunteer Tutor Scheme (VTS) is recruiting Volunteer Tutors to support newly arrived refugees and migrants living to practice English language skills and navigate life in Australia.

VTS activity occurs either online via digital platforms such as WhatsApp or Zoom or face to face in a public space.

Volunteers commit to meeting with their learner at a mutually convenient time for at least 1 hour a week.

Join the VTS volunteer community to build skills, gain confidence and broaden your networks. Black Rock Pre-School is currently looking for a volunteer with a WWCC who is able to assist with some general garden maintenance and/or occasionally mowing to be undertaken on Wednesday afternoons or weekends. Department: Childcare and Early Learning Centre (CELC)

Time Commitment:  One day per week (Mon, Tue, Thur 9.00am-12.30pm;                    Wed, Fri – 9.00am to 1.30pm)

Program Objective: To assist the CELC’s Manager and staff in providing high-quality care and stimulating activities for children 0 – 5 yrs

Specific Duties:                 

1. Greet parents and welcome children
2. Interact positively with and care for children
3. Comfort and assist children requiring individualised care and attention
4. Set up and pack up toys and learning activities as required
5. Assist with children’s activities and learning experiences
6. Become familiar with the Allergy Plan noticeboard, noting the children in your group who have asthma or anaphylaxis
7. Supervise children eating food, helping make it a pleasant social experience while ensuring the food provided is in line with the Centre’s ‘no nuts’ policy. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own snack so they can eat with the children.
8. Maintain a high level of hygiene and safety, providing a good model for children in these areas e.g. cleaning hands before handling food
9. Wear sunsmart hats in the outdoors area in Terms 1 and 4
10. Assist with the end of day pack up
11. Perform other appropriate tasks as directed by staff

Skills Required:                 

1. Ability to work in a team
2. Caring attitude
3. Previous experience in childcare or similar preferred but not essential
4. Awareness and use of appropriate ‘positive’ language

 Training and Support:

- Orientation to Sandybeach Centre.

- When appropriate and available, Sandybeach Centre will provide professional development opportunities to volunteers related to early childhood education, health, safety and first aid.

With your assistance as a volunteer mini-bus driver, elderly residents from HammondCare Caulfield will enjoy short outings as you drive them on short local trips for 1-2 hours and it may include a picnic morning tea or lunch. You will be accompanied by one of our care staff who will look after the residents care needs.

As the bus is a 10 seater, anyone with a current Australian C class drivers license and five years good driving history can volunteer. We will provide training on driving the bus as well as orientation and ongoing support from the on-site Volunteer Coordinator.

Ideally you'll be available weekly or fortnightly for 6-12 months or longer.

We know that people living with dementia experience lower levels of social engagement, inclusion and connectedness within their communities. For a person who is unable to communicate there is even greater risk of social isolation and loneliness. Our volunteer visitors help elderly residents to stay connected to the community through regular social visits.

We are currently seeking the help of special people who would be willing to make short regular visits to a lonely older person living with dementia who may have limited communication.  Suggested activities may include reading to the person, holding their hand or playing their favourite music.

Volunteering can be an extremely rewarding experience for everyone involved. If you would like to make a real difference to the life of an older person and you can commit to fortnightly visits for at least 12months we would love to hear from you!

Jarrod, a team leader of the Stationeer Volunteer program is currently seeking 1 or 2 people to join his gardening team. This opportunity will take place along the Brighton Beach Train line and runs for around an hour. This role is extremely relaxed and will take place every second Friday (time flexible).

Stationeer Volunteers Program was established to improve railway station landscapes by gardening.

Southside Dog School Inc, is a small not for profit dog club operating from Cheltenham Park, in Park Road, Cheltenham.   We offer training in a supportive and friendly environment, and our instructors and volunteers are all committed to, and passionate about, positive, rewards based training.  

We would love a little assistance in the office on Thursday and/or Sunday mornings, on a short term or ongoing basis.

Duties may include:  

• Opening up the clubrooms and setting the room up for the morning.  Putting sign in sheet, flyers, banner, newsletter, etc out for all to see and use.   Getting tea/coffee/biscuits set up ready for use.   
• Meeting members as they sign in for their class.
• Meeting and greeting potential new members.  Advising them of the requirements of membership, what they need to bring to facilitate enrolment, etc.
• Signing up new members.   Ensuring all forms are filled in correctly, and relevant documents sighted.   Taking payment.  Making up membership badges.  Giving a brief rundown of how the club works.  
• Dealing with cash payments from new or rejoining memberships, daily fees, equipment sales, petty cash.   Preparing the money for handover to our Treasurer, Eva.
• Ringing the bell to signify classes have commenced or finished.
• Other duties as required, which could include contacting Council regarding building faults, buying supplies, etc.

This role is not suitable for anyone attending our classes at the moment, because you will not have time to train your dog as well as helping out inside.  

No dog training, or training advice is required.  Any such questions would be referred onto one of our instructors.

Anyone willing to take on the role, or even to have a try out, will be provided with training, guidance and support.  Ongoing volunteers are supplied with uniforms, and are encouraged to attend our bi-annual volunteer lunch.  We have a professional development sponsorship policy for volunteers.

This position could be perfect for someone who may be at a bit of a loose end, or for someone interested in a volunteer role with a friendly group.  

We try to have two people in the office at all times.  Our main Admin person, Di, will be taking leave in July, so we would like to fill this role as soon as we can, so that her assistant is not left on her own during her absence.  We want to ensure that the absence is covered, and that any prospectinve assistant is fully trained up prior to the absence.

Our Corporate volunteer days are on a Wednesday & Friday.

TeamSports4All helps socio-economically disadvantaged kids in Bayside participate in club sport in their community – kids from the poorest and most marginalised parts of our society.

We all know that sport leads to a more active life and improved mental and physical health, but being part of a team and club also reduces social isolation, helps kids and families to make valuable community connections, exposes kids to a range of positive role models, and has been shown to reduce kids’ involvement in criminal activity and drug use.

The support of TS4A makes it possible. We get these kids started in team sport by connecting them with a local club, getting them registered and paying the fees for them, introducing them to the team manager and coach, providing them with uniforms, footwear, equipment but most importantly providing ongoing support to the families via our kids sports mentors to encourage long term participation in sport.
