Chatty Cafe Table Volunteer

The Chatty Cafe Scheme Australia

Hampton, VIC

Posted 4/28/2022

At Chatty Café Australia (CCA) , we believe that simply having a chat with someone can really brighten a person’s day! Research tells us that being connected to others is important for both physical and mental health

Chatty Cafe Australia, (an ACNC registered Charity) has been provided a Community Grant by Bayside City Council to engage 150 social venues across the Bayside area to sign up to Chatty Café and establish “Have a Chat” tables where customers can sit who choose to chat to other customers for conversation. Everyone has a story to share or just a casual chat about whatever might be of interest at that moment in time!

Chatty Venues may vary from commercial cafes, restaurants, clubs, and pubs, to local community centres, neighbourhood houses, libraries and markets that allow people to gather safely for a "Chat" for a few minutes or longer as Bayside comes out of lockdown. This may be indoors or outdoors depending on restrictions as they are reduced for venues.

Venues can choose to request a Chatty Volunteer that will act as a facilitator or “ice-breaker” for customers to  connect with other customers when the venue offers their Chatty Table.

This role: Chatty Table Volunteer

The role:  As a Chatty Table Volunteer your role is to help introduce the Chatty Café Australia concept to venues across Bayside. We need you to help start conversations with customers that are happy to chat to other customers at a “Have a Chat” table. To do this we would ask you sit at the “Have a Chat” table designated by the Chatty venue at an agreed regular time(s)/day(s) and engage with interested customers  to sit at the table to have a chat with you or with other customers. You can do this on your own or with another Chatty Volunteer.   We want “Have a Chat” tables to become a regular offering at community-focussed venues across Bayside. We will provide you with the necessary training, information & material you will need to volunteer with us. A Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required. This is available to all Victorian Volunteers free of charge. Expectations regarding vaccinations will follow government advice.

Please submit your interest via this Bayside Volunteering site or provide an Expression of Interest on our Chatty website at
